Eco-Friendly Fall Wedding at Germantown Gables in Louisville, Kentucky
MJ and Holly got married in the fall of 2025, I’ve been meaning to post their photos for a bit now. They got married at Germantown Gables here in Louisville, Kentucky. The venue was the perfect style for MJ & Holly: there were already plants everywhere and the rest of the venue feels like a blank slate you can decorate to show your own personality. On their wedding day, they really wanted to focus on their family and friends and not get too caught up in the stress. Sprinkled throughout this blog post are some ways they made their wedding more sustainable as well, because from our first meeting together, Holly & MJ emphasized how important sustainability and caring for nature was to them. So many of their details were handmade and each one felt thoughtful and intentional.
They had real plants they propagated from their own home plants as favors, and lego plants for folks who don’t have a green thumb. (How cool is that?) They had handmade centerpieces made from dried & paper flowers, and thrifted details. Ribbon wands were made for the send-off . . . . ribbon wands are a lot less scary than sparklers and eco friendly, too.
Get this, they had even Louisville Compost Co-op buckets out for compost at the reception. This inspired me to start composing again and now I use with Louisville Compost, too! If you have an apartment and aren’t able to compost yourself, it’s a real great option. MJ & Holly also had compostable plates and mason jars. They brought board games from home or borrowed them from friends as activities. All of these touches made their wedding not only more eco-friendly and better for our earth, but saved them some money, and were darling. It made their wedding day even more meaningful.
I’m really glad MJ & Holly had me photograph their wedding, it was an honor. There were tidbits upon tidbits of sweet moments throughout the day (the ones between all the kids were my favorites!).
